So I'm working on my paper for Modern Japan, on Perry's visit, and I wasn't even really thinking about the dates, except that this is a particularly relevant year to be writing about it all. Then something clicked. I went, "wait, March? When, March?" And I checked.

My eighteenth birthday was two days before the 150th anniversary of the official signing by the Japanese party of the initial treaty between Japan and the U.S.

Major WOAH.
