Well, the sink research turned out okay, and there's a plumber coming tomorrow. So.

I get to be happy now. We got a tree~~ And it's small and cute and pretty~~

And last night I had a caramel walnut apple crumble, yum. It did not inspire me to propose to the chef*, but I suspect that's because I didn't know him/her, and they weren't Aerith. Also, as an extremely picky eater with rather pessimistic tendencies, I'm not in the habit of being swayed to positive extremes by food. But lo, it was good.

Mmm.

So in the end, I got a huge honking load of vegetables for approximately $10, and on the way back, as I tried to change sides for carrying the bags (which weren't all that heavy, really) I suddenly couldn't breathe.

Not fun. But I'm back now, and in one piece.

Next time I will remember my carrybag

My hip chooses the oddest times to give out on me.

Good news, however, is that after dinner I should have enough apples to make a pie.

Strange that an asleep leg would remind me of a recipe. Still, from Joy of Cooking:

So, although I never mentioned it before, my printer is working again. Yay.

Also, I need to use up the rest of the beef. I'm at a point when I can't eat it again, sadly. It would have been nice to know before I bought it, so I could get something else. Oh well. There'll be something - I can make somebody's lunch with it, maybe. She liked the dinner I made tonight, I'll just do something similar.

Aside from that, people are slowly (very very very slowly, but I'm hearing voices in the hall again) coming back. Woo.

And my calves have knotted themselves so tight it hurts to stand on bare feet.

And that's what's new with me.

... oh yeah. If anyone feels like giving me chocolates, I might even be willing to kiss them for it. They've got to be good chocolates, though.

So, Thanksgiving dinner was not very thanksgiving-y at all, and there were only two of us, but that's okay. I have leftovers, and extra chicken, and I can keep going. Also looking forward to meeting with [livejournal.com profile] kodalai again, woo! Happiness.

Can't write for long, though, since I have a ten-minute deadline I need to meet. Why is this the case for apple pie? Dunno.

Okay, 4:00 is the cutoff point for RSVPs (which are now nonexistent, that's okay) because that's when I'm getting food.

At this point, I need to announce that I seem to be making dinner on Friday too. I don't know what yet, but I'll probably decide while I'm up north at the grocer's. (oo, old fashioned name (or British)) I think it depends on what kinds of meat look good behind the counter, and what price they are. Also what's available. There's no grill, so I'd hesitate to do steak, except as a slow-cook thing. Or ham at all. Which kinda cuts things down, wouldn't you say?

... Hm. What about... slow-cook beef in... its own juices, with onions and tomatoes, and mustard for seasoning? Or if that's a little too experimental for your tastes, I can do pepper, rosemary, and marjoram instead. Maybe toss something green in at the end - for some reason I'm thinking of asparagus. I'd have to steam that first, probably, and leave it in the microwave to stay hot, before adding it at the last minute. Ooo, I like that idea! I think I'll try it.

So yeah, people who are staying here are welcome to join me on Friday too. I'm expecting (hoping for) Carrot and Beth, we'll see on others.

... yeah. Woo, Thanksgiving. What are you doing? Me? I'm staying here and cooking dinner. If you're sticking around, you're welcome, but please let me know because what I'm doing this year requires that I know how many people I'm cooking for. Let's see, so far it's me, John...

Uh...

A'Quila(h?), maybe? I'm not sure. Same with Beth. No, wait, she's out of town this time.

Darn.

Hey, even if only Friday works, let me know. I can make dinner then too. And there will (possibly, hopefully) be leftover apple pie.

(Yeah, I know, but I'm not the best at pumpkin pie.)

Waaah, I'm going to be alo~~~~~~~~~~~~~ne.

Nobody came. That made me sad. But! I cooked anyway. Unfortunately, I couldn't smell anything so I was afraid of overcooking the caramel and wound up not cooking it enough so it's still runny. Dusting it didn't help either.

But you know... they're still good. Just sticky. People should come by and taste them, because it would be real embarrassing, when asked how I spent my fall break, to say, "I made candy" and then "I ate it all myself."

Due to not needing eggs, though, I am probably going to be making them and bacon some time today. Probably as soon as [livejournal.com profile] aerin_pegadrak gets out of the shower and approves. Same rule applies as before, especially since I don't think we can eat all that bacon by ourselves.

Oh yes, before I forget. At some point today, probably after dinner so maybe around... 6:00? 6:30? I will be embarking on the making of candy. Specifically, orange walnuts and almonds-and-dried-fruit in clusters with chocolate. And a ton of sugar, so we can have fun with making hard candy too, provided we find flavoring. I have a book! but it will be my first time.

If anyone reading this wants to come and help me, or at least come and talk with me while I do this (because company in the kitchen is wonderful!) let me know or just drop by. Everyone within distance knows where I live. ♥
