Alright, I realize that I'm spoiled, but come on, people! Text rotation and text direction. I want them. I do databases. Not spreadsheets, databases. )

The internet in my room is wonky. This is an established fact. It's also been established through exhaustive experimentation that it's not the hardware, and it's not the software, and while fussing with positioning and restarting and rebooting the airport hub and all that may sometimes improve things, it may not. There doesn't seem to be any pattern I can follow.

the phantom internets defy comprehension )

Obviously, I need an exorcist.

EDIT - If you can figure out why I've given this the 'fan' and 'game' tags, points to you.

Well, I just lost the past week to computer problems. What were they, you ask? Well, my main external drive went rather spectuacularly, and mysteriously kaput, in such a way that it corrupted all my other drives as well and it therefore took me about a day and a half to even figure out the problem.

So I need four new names that all fit together. I find patterns, after all, so that covers number of syllables, the letters used, general impression given by the sounds, the meanings, and so on and so forth. And they need to be able to roll off my tongue in quick succession and give personality, too.

Hm. Maybe angel-types? With the -el and -ute endings? Hmmmmmm.

Ack, it's late. Bed. Triumphantly to bed!

And just how long has it been...?

I just wanted to see if I could survive without my comp for a week or so, so I wouldn't feel like I had to bring it with me to CA, even though I wouldn't be able to access the 'net while there. And since the 'net is the real source of my attachment, and if I feel the need to draw or write, that can be done on paper...

Well, it succeeded. Obviously. And, since I got no messages while the comp was down, everyone else can survive without me, too.

Two points of interest:

I found two card games that I intend to bring with me. One is like scrabble, except that points are determined by the number of angles in the letter, and the more points there are in a word, the higher your chance of going mad, and eventually dying. The other is like apples to apples, only with inventions and specious logic, and involves story-telling.

Also, it looks like I have inattentive!ADD, and never knew it. Since this form is the one that's easy to miss because there's no hyperactivity, I'm not surprised. But now my bad memory and trouble with languages is justified! And I have pills to help me focus, and they are dangerous, for they make me lose all track of time.

The annoying thing about having three _Js that I want to actuallly keep track of is that sometimes it takes me a while to get around to doing them all. Still, this is essentially what I've been spending my day doing:

I'll spare you the IJ version )

Arrrgh. It is SO hard to do a rollover when LJ doesn't allow java.

I nearly - nearly! - got it when the site I'd embedded to let it work crapped out on me. It won't let me back on for an hour, at the least. SOOOOO MUUUUUCH HAAAAAAATE.

If anyone else has any ideas for how to finagle this, send 'em at me.

Well, my computer is back. With a new optical drive, yay.

As my battery is down to two hours per charge, we'll go back and get a replacement for that too, probably in a couple days. However, that's easy to change, so it's no trouble.

First week of classes has been interesting. Persuasion hovers on the edge of being dull, but Rock is tons of fun. I've decided to take notes on the comp instead of by hand; these past few days has only reinforced that decision.

Maybe when I'm not able to idly sketch any more I'll be able to pay a bit more attention in the Persuasion class.

The computer lab computers are SO EFFING SLOW I had time to write this while waiting for a page to load. Bah.

And more time.

And more time.

... ah, hell with it. I'm going to print everything now so I don't have to bother with this stupid process again. (And it means I'll have it all, which is good.)

Ah. Since I am now feeling better, a bit of news.

I've just recently tripled my memory. Ah, RAM, that is. I got my laptop before you were allowed to specify how much it came with (or something like that), and so I got the standard minimum of 512 mb. But with a handy little plate that removes using an eyeglasses screwdriver, I was able to add another gig to that - which means that I can now use Poser, and experiment some more with Maya, and things like that. Good stuff.

Besides that, a program of mine that I didn't even think about, but which runs the entire time my computer is on (DragThing, one of Kagi's earlier developments, which is dead useful), needed to be upgraded from 4.6.1 to 5.7.1. That's done too, and hopefully these two improvements combined will take care of the slow-down-computer-unto-force-restart problem I've complained about now and then. Of course, I won't say, "Yep, that was it," until at least a month passes, but so far so good.

Tomorrow I dye my hair again. (This summer I have plans to go black, for the second time in my life.)
surei: (elipse)
So. I haven't mentioned it, but there was a while in there when it seemed like I'd have to force restart my computer every day - restart because things got into serious drag-time and I spent more time waiting for the colorwheel to go away than actually doing things, force because of the time lag too, but also because I'd try and restart and it would fail because programs refused to quit. Yeah.

Anyway, I finally got fed up with it and turned it off for about half a day (instead of the hour or so periods I'd tried before), and for whatever reason that seems to have done the job, because it's been nearly a week now with no problems.

Still don't know what was going on, though.

(btw, that is an I and two Ls, not a three up there)

(also, check out the icon. It's not exactly appropriate, but I like it.
