I have pro-quality markers! There was an occasion to visit the local(ish) art supply shop, and they had a special on markers, and I'd been getting back into AUMs, and I sort of wanted at the markers for a while before deciding to go ahead and get some - basic, clear, bright primaries/secondaries and a black - because markers are in fact what I enjoy doing most, when it comes to the more traditional (read: non-digital) methods of arting. Hey, the first set of AUMs were done with a pen and highlighters.

Anyway, the Copics were over my head, so I made do with Prismacolor. Which is not poor quality, I just have a thing about Copic markers that I probably picked up from Kaze at some point. And after a week or so (yes, I've kept this to myself, however briefly, mostly due to the computer stuff that happened at the same time), I went back and got more in some variation on colors. Things like a more yellowy green (the first one I got was a little too heavy on the blue for proper leafy shading) and cream and "brick white" which is excellent for shading and a proper teal and ultramarine-blue. And a maroon, because I like maroon, and purple is hard to get right as it is.

And I decided to take a break from these canvas-card things I've been working with, that have texture with a vengeance and teeth and don't absorb the ink immediately so it's almost like oils in application and the results are more like watercolor, and return to paper. Glorious, glorious paper.

So Darcy is pretty happy.

On the one hand, my attempts at AUMs always turn out like this or like this, which is a little frustrating. The first one looks like a seahorse to me; and all the ones I've tried in that style become dragonesque. The other style completely breaks from what they started out as, but I find them really pretty. (Case in point: this one's my favorite so far.) I wanna do original AUMs! *whine* ... but it probably just takes practice and copying myself a couple times.

On the other hand, lookit! It's full of mistakes and was a really quick sketchy thing and I wasn't able to get the lines fine enough, but it's so prettyyyyy. I will probably hate it later, but right now I'm full of glee.

And to round out the group of things I do when I doodle (squiggles, snake-dragons, and...) have an eye. Considering that I wear eye-squiggles, and have been doing AUMs, it should not be at all unusual, but for some reason I keep seeing a merging of Ancient Egypt and Cthulhu Mythos here, and I hold Mati entirely to blame.

If it were more than my quirky imagination, I'd wave it at her, but as it is...

It's been a nice distraction from the LJnewspolicythingie and how tired that makes me feel.
