Dear Darcy,

The Study Abroad Committe reviewed your petition to apply for the Nagoya/IES program. I know you will be pleased to learn your petition has been approved.

The letter was much longer than that, of course, but that's all that matters.

So I go to the COOP because, hey, I'm tired, and I feel like treating myself to cheese sticks and a shake. Originally I was thinking I'd take them back with me, but then I said I would have them there, so I figured, why not? And sat down with my binder to do some fleshing out of some sketches. And then Frank wheels in (because he's wearing skates) and plops down in the chair across from me.

Now, I haven't eaten with him since some time before the end of second semester my freshman year, and he and his sense of humor can sometimes be a little unpleasant, if you're uncertain of yourself or it's a touchy subject or you're the kind of person to take offense, but we just had a really nice half hour of conversation, about nothing much in particular. Which was why I liked him to begin with, despite occasional unpleasantness.

It was nothing memorable, but I'm glad it happened.
