It's a looooooot easier to stay awake when you have a computer. A lot. The same thing happened as before: it suddenly decided to stop snarling and behave properly. The difference now, however, is that over the next couple of days (while I'm treating it really nicely and putting it to sleep whenever possible) I'll be transferring all my files over to my new external drive. I have no idea what I'm going to do with 300gigs, but apparently you need a lot of space to deserve a firewire connection, so there we go. I'm back up, and back on, and am prepared to hobble through the rest of the year until this summer, when we'll be replacing the internal drive. Isn't that lovely? But it's definitely the drive that's been snarling, and while it remains inexplicable, I have little hope of it just up and deciding it now loves me and will never do this again. So replacement.
I've missed out on a lot since Tuesday, but also had a lot of fun. Hum... Tuesday evening was when I broke in my birthday present (120 colored pencils = LOVE). Wednesday we went shopping for things like kitchen equipment (knives and a sharpener and a grater and pans) and books and the drive and hub and stuff, and I discovered that I can no longer eat within about three hours of getting up, or I get nauseated (and out goes breakfast, yay). Thursday we went out to the desert - Palm Springs area - and hiked for a couple miles and saw a tortoise and tarantulas and some doves and a hella lot of flowers and visited a sort of cactus museum, which was also very interesting, if a little weird. And today we went to Pasadena to get together with my aunt (mother's youngest sister) and her husband and went to a museum and gawked at old SouthEast Asian statues (mostly Hindu and Buddhist) and then went out to dinner at a really nice Mexican place and got more books, yay. Tomorrow is Little Tokyo, and Sunday is homework and such, and Tuesday I'm making lemon merengue pie but with limes. If anyone feels like inviting themselves along tomorrow, let me know somehow and show up ready to leave from my room at around 9am. I don't expect any takers, but you're welcome anyway. And if you want pie, you're welcome to that too, but you'll have to wait until I make it first.
