sureiAh, it's been so long since I really got interested in this series. Still, reading a pretty good, and rather thorough spoilers section for it that, sadly, covered only the first season was very frustrating. I wanted to say things like, "No, Farfarello is not a nothing, and he's not a healer ([which was, admittedly, just speculation]), he does astral projection."
And that is not just speculation. One of the Drama CD collections (Dramatic, Precious, whatever, I don't remember) covers the story in between season 1 and Glühen, when everybody's in Germany and Schwarz is running away from this group named Farblos (which name I predicted, dammit. AND their job.) with a blind man and his dove and Farfarello has a girlfriend and does this wonderful screaming thing while gunning people down with a machine gun and later on dies. Well, his body anyway.
I'm really very fond of Farfarello. And Schuldich, but that's a much more platonic thing which stems from the fact that I've been accused of being him on more than one occasion. That's all because of my best friend: we were on our way back (back? or was it to?) a con, my hair was a little more than shoulder length, the just-beginning-to-set sun was shining through my hair, and she suddenly choked and said I looked like Schuldich. (Of course, when my hair was black, she also said a couple times that I looked like Snape, so I leave it to you do decide how to take that.) Then, too, the fondness for Farfarello is pretty platonic too, but that's because said best friend claimed him for herself, and cosplayed as him when I was Schuldich. With the straight jacket. I had to learn how to strap her in.
We didn't quite match, because I did anime (1) Schuldich and she did manga Farfarello, but what the heck. I could no more pull of green than she could white, and neither of us have anything like gold eyes.
Anyway. Or rather, no, let's have another digression. I really get tired of people who stick Gyojo's (Saiyuki) personality into Schuldich's body. We never see (or hear) him drink, or drunk, or acting the playboy. In fact, I think the only time there's any connection between him and sex is when he's starting to rape Farfarello's girlfriend. Bad move there, donut.
... arr, I cannot believe I remembered that. Sorry. That's from Schuldich --> Schu --> Schuschu, which sounds almost exactly like chouchoux a type of French pastry similar to a donut. Or we could just stop at Schu, that sounds like choux, cabbage. Which happens to be an endearment. Eesh.
"Almost exactly like" - yes. One of them is a long (but not hard) u, the other is a oo. I daresay most people wouldn't hear the difference.
Wow, this is just turning into segue after segue, isn't it? Back to the original point: the spoilers page. It makes me want to write one for the whole damn thing because, after all, season 1 is horrendously limited. Especially if you want to write and stay in canon at the same time. Because hello, you're not going to know that Farfarello will grab any weapon to hand and wreak gleeful havoc, or why Omi decided to be Mamoru, or why Nagi decided to work 'for' him, or what Youji was doing in Germany (or even that he was there) or how everbody died or how it all began if you only pay attention to the thirdish out of who knows how many story bits. But, for one, I would get frustrated or bored and abandon it before finishing such a page, and for another, I still don't know all the bits. I haven't been able to get my hands on either Side B or any of the novellettes. (But I do have part two of AWS, so HAH.)
And anyone who wants to pay attention to just one bit, they're perfectly welcome to, but that's practically making it all AU. The only things that merit being disregarded are the extra chara designs for people that already exist. Since the manga came first, the first anime designs were heavily based off them, and the second anime designs were, for the most part, just nasty I'm personally inclined to go with the red/red, green/gold, orange-red, and oak version. You know. I do kinda like the third version for Ken, Nagi, and Crawford, though. The first two for the whole aging shtick, and the last because monocles are just awesome. And so is anybody who can pull off a sexy Treize-look without all the garish color or associated megalomaniacal tendencies. Or rather, anyone who can make me go, "ohmygod, he looks like Treize!" *sqeeeeee* when I never squeed over Treize himself. Um. Yeah. I was highly disappointed by the curl-thing Omi had going on with that one lock of hair - honestly, wouldn't it get annoying? - and the lack of an eyepatch on a certain person I've already mentioned too much.
I think I mention him too much because if I were a WK character, complete with all that lovely fighting ability and lack of conscience (at least while in the act, but I don't think I would angst when normal), I would SO hang out with Schwarz rather than Weiß or one of the other groups. No one else is amused by being disturbing in quite the right way.
