1) I just ran across the name Kurosaki, and I was like, why is that so familiar? Kurosaki, Kurosaki... oh god. Kurosaki Hisoka, Kurosaki Ichigo. What is it with that name and shinigami? I mean, yeah, you could interpret 黒崎 as meaning "the bit of cliff that sticks out over the abyss", but so? I'm sure I can think of much more symbolically coherent names for death gods. That said, I'm kind of scared of a story that involves both of them.
2) I'd gotten an odd idea in my head about daevas from Aion winding up in Ivalice, because hey, there's not that much difference between "the Abyss" and "the Dark," right? And I was like, okay self, you have clearly overdosed on both Aion and Vagrant Story, why not think of something completely different? Like, oh, say, Detective Conan. (And Magic Kaito; it's the same universe, and in my mind, they're inextricably linked.)
This was a mistake.
Because. The Black Organization (calling it the Shadow Syndicate works too). The search for immortality. The person who at least apparently is immortal, and is also very mysterious and doesn't explain a damn thing and appears whenever she feels like it, ragh. The way Shinichi/Conan has this magnetism for things (cases). Just. Argh.
So now I see Shinichi as a favorite of the Dark, and maybe becoming Conan is sort of like the way he was marked by it? In which case he was given to the dark and hoo boy if anyone ever succeeds in killing him won't they be in for a surprise then. And the Dark gives him dead bodies to play with and I don't know where Vermouth is in all this but she's definitely somewhere. But I really want to see Shinichi figure out about the Dark and that the way to get his body back is not to try and reject the Dark (which I guess is what trying to do undo the apotoxin would be) but just to ask it nicely. And I want him to meet Sydney and Ashley, because that would be awesome. And they are awesome. And then he goes back and defeats the black org with his awesome and the Dark and the Dark is all 'Yay you gave me playthings here have some more dead bodies" and Shinichi is happy because he has cases to solve for the rest of his life. Only after a while he starts seeing the ghosts and they try to tell him things and he has to tell them to be quiet because he wants to figure it out for himself, no kibitzing allowed.
The only thing I can't figure out is why there wouldn't be any of the Cold Ones if the Dark is in the DC/MK universe. Hmm, hmmm. Oh, right! The Dark keeps what it takes, but if pretty much nobody has anything to do with the Dark it doesn't get to touch anybody, so of course there's no zombies everywhere. It's not like there's tons of zombies in Ivalice either, just in Leá Monde. But Koizumi Akako's boy-magnet fascination spell thingy is kind of like Sydney's everybody-magnet fascination effect thingie, and now I'm seeing connections between Kaito and Ashley, erk. Somebody stop me.
