11/11/07:
I don't remember the dream, but when I woke up this morning, I wondered who would win: Winnowill or Jenova. And then it hit me.
IDEA: Jenova is Winnowill.
+ "Where need is present, control is simple. Learn what he wants most and give it to him. Then create another need and fulfill that! And so on... and so on..." <-- Winnowill (Elfquest: The Secret of Two-Edge)
• I see this as sort of how she might get Hojo to go along with her, at least at first. Later, of course, he's perverted enough to do it anyway
+ "His needs, his appetites were beautiful. She hungered for his natural will -- fed on it -- usurped it -- and destroyed him when he came back to himself... ... Protect self, that was why the cage -- at first, then the games began -- mother against son. She could not break him, but she could split his mind in two!" (again, Elfquest: The Secret of Two-Edge)
• Whee, batshitinsane!Sephiroth. In fact, the relationships between Two-Edge and Winowill, and between Jenova and Sephiroth are eerily alike. Except where Two-Edge hates his mother as well as obsessing over her, Sephiroth hates Hojo, ShinRa... Winowill learned from experience, I guess.
+ promising pseudo-divinity is also her style
+ and wanting to go to the stars, too
+ "She is inside our minds -- always! ... She feeds on more than our dreams!" and "That is why Winnowill wants the preservers -- to bind our bodies in endless sleep, so that she may feed on our powers -- like a blood-bat!" <-- Aroree (Elfquest: Siege at Blue Mountain)
• and, of course, the tendency to try and control everyone, to use their power as hers
• materia would be too great a temptation to resist
+ self-tainted, too, so her spirit is not bound to the time and place in which the palace exists, and when she dies, Wendy draws her spirit as a large, black thing that coils through the air like oil does through water. The lifestream would suit her well.
+ capable of possessing people, essentially eating their soul
• Though this doesn't show up in FF7, the triplets in AC are sort of a similar phenomenon.
