If the sky were naturally white instead of blue, it would be brownish red right now. Somebody decided to do a 'controlled burn' a couple days ago, without considering the winds or that everything's dry right now. So, of course, the 'controlled burn' became a fire that generated enough smoke to be a nuisance to incoming airplanes.

Both yesterday and today, the light has been yellowish and reddish and brownish all at once. White sidewalks and walls are now reddish-tan. Blue has been leeched from almost everything - including the sky, which is an ugly grey without the aid of clouds. The mountains are practically invisible.

The air is filled with ash. Not pleasant, let me tell you. And it's not just an expression - the tops of those fabric parasols that they put over tables outside? The fallen ash stands out well against that fabric. It's obvious.

Before Paul took it out of proportion, I made a joke that we had a miniature volcano nearby, and it had erupted. It seemed reasonable, though, which was rather creepy.

And then, of course, we moved onto other things. Paul now has a new pick-up line: Hi. Will you wear me today?
Of course, it's not funny now that I'm not in the moment. Oh well. Still okay.

I'm putting off my trip into the Village in the hopes that tomorrow will be better. Still, tomorrow's the last possible day, so if it isn't I'll have to go anyway.
