Since I'm up too late after writing a difficult email, here's a random thought:

Have you ever tried looking someone right in the eyes? Eyes, plural. If you try looking them right in the eye, there's no meaningful communication because you're just studying their eye and that's kind of creepy. So have you ever tried focusing on someone's eyes, just their eyes, both eyes at once? It's really hard. I can't do it without going fuzzy.
