Of all of Jane Austen's male characters, at least as they appear in print, I think I like Colonel Brandon best. The only part I don't like is the part which let him fall in love with Marrianne while she was suffering under all the folly that her happier relationship with Willoughby exposed her to. (Under the influence of her writing, sorry). In other words, I don't like the part of his character that let him fall in love with someone who so obviously had neither respect nor liking for him.
