So we were supposed to brag in class today. And it occurred to me that I could have said, Even though I'm a Sophomore, I'm still only eighteen. Instead I wound up talking about the number of cranes I've made so far this semester, which is, perhaps, less impressive.

In other news, the jacket I got the other day was designed for someone with no hips. I'm going to have to do some major revamping in order to fix that, and will probably wind up doing that in some kind of contrast, since matching the fabric (a very nice black, almost impossible to find) will be really too hard. So I'll probably wind up doing some fancywork around the cuffs and collar and the pockets, which are currently fake, but which I'm going to make real.

Hm. I'm thinking a nice, rich black brocade, and then I could add lace trim/ruffs to the collar, sleeves, and bottom of the coat when done, and come out looking vaguely gothloli, in a masculine style.

When it comes down to it, I guess the question is: what is "professional"? What makes a person professional - when do they start being pros and stop being amateurs or interns or something along those lines?

I've always defined it as "getting paid", but maybe it's more complicated than that.

It has been for a while, actually. Mine mother is a professional quilter, so when we can, we make clothes together. It's getting to the point where I can design my own (simple) patterns -- although I still find Vogue's instructions to be confusing, since they never explain anything.

I have a new costume, some clubbing gear, a snobby/artsy overshirt jacket-like thing (of even simpler design than the bog coat, but I made the sleeves kimono-ish) and both a rather nice dress and some victorian underwear underway. I used the corset mockup too. That's the, uh, strapless teal-and-black bodice with pretty embroidery. I've said I'll only wear it to a rave or the like, but who knows?
